[Concept] 1920's flapper
My concept is a celebration of the liberated woman. Bettie is a single lady living alone in a city and makes one rethink the ideal of the middle aged woman. She teaches at a university which at first was a large step for women and values fighting for a cause. Throughout the 1920's the "flapper" was a major figure in society, and represented the way that women were pushing the envelope. A flapper was characterized as being the epitome of femininity at the time, while at the same time taking very masculine forms. The flapper could be described as streamline, vibrant, a symbol of change and freedom. I want to combine the ideals of the flapper and their physical appearance along with the art deco style of the time. Art deco was characterized as being in motion, engaging with the human body, and a representation of the movie craze of the time.

[material]:
tailored, refined, flowing and streamline, feminine yet strongly constructed and accented, lush patterns and materials mixed with hardware,

[light]
streamline, repetitive, filtered, progressive, long beams rather than focused light, constantly moving and drawing the eye onward, streams of light

[color]
contrasting tones and hues, feminine patterns, bold colors that make a statement, light colors balanced with deeper tones, used in different ways than one would normally see
