[Mcmansion]:tour of renovated homes

As a precursor to the [mcmansion] investigation I was assigned two homes on the Tour of Renovated Homes to investigate. All of the homes on the tour are located in Greensboro, or in the near vicinities. The first home I visited, featured above, had renovations in the kitchen living room and bedroom. I was not very impressed to say the least. It seemed to be a little cliché, with blues and browns and a basic kitchen. When I asked about sustainability it seemed that they were fighting to come up with examples. I was disappointed the renovators did not have a very broad knowledge of the work they had down. Inside you could find dark woods, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and earth tones.

The second home I visited, shown below, was more of custom build. Most of the renovations were completed by the home owner who was a lot more knowledgeable then the first home because he had first hand experience. This home was fully renovated, and a lot more unique than the first. Dark woods, soapstone counters, and dark walls made the experience seem more intimate. The owner wanted to "tie together the whole house" with an open layout, and continued themes.
